When you are not feeling good, it is very tempting to do lots of research to find out what ‘the problem’ is. But is this helpful?
The teacher in me knows that ‘knowledge is power.’ It is important to have information, knowledge and understanding to enable you to be fully successful. For things to change, we need to make a change; common sense tells us that it is best if we make an informed decision.
So why do we sometimes find that all this learning and information gathering isn’t making us feel any better, sometimes even worse? That is because of our subconscious mind.
The main purpose of our subconscious mind is to keep us safe. Unfortunately, because it can’t distinguish between an actual danger and a perceived danger, our subconscious makes a snap decision & then collects evidence to justify its choice. As the evidence grows, so do our reactions, behaviours and feelings.
The best way to research is to make sure we are researching in a helpful way; a way that doesn’t give unhelpful evidence to your subconscious mind, but actively shows it that there is another way. I know that it can be comforting to read about experiences similar to your own, but if you do, reflect on how helpful that actually is. Flip your research on its head. Research for a way to feel better, to make a change, to find success stories.
I have put together a resource bank of interesting articles, videos, links and book recommendations that support you in this. Have a look, have a read and notice how they make you feel.
If you have any recommendations of anything I can add to the resource bank, please contact me. I would love this to be an ever-evolving, supportive and helpful resource.
